Setting up VPN with Android

This article explains how to set up VPN access for connecting to the university network with Android.

 

1. Download the OpenVPN App

Download the OpenVPN Connect app

First of all, please install the OpenVPN Connect App. Download the OpenVPN Connect App from the Play Store and install it on your device.

 

2. Download the Profile File

Please download the VPN profile with your mobile device here.

 

The profile file should now be in your download folder.

3. Import to the OpenVPN Connect App

Import the profile file
Permit OpenVPN access to photos, media and files
Select the file to import

Now open the OpenVPN Connect App on your device. The first time you start the app, you will be asked to import a VPN profile. Select the tab FILE.

 

In some cases, you will need to allow the app to access photos, media and files. This is necessary for accessing the previously downloaded VPN profile.

 

Now select the previously downloaded VPN profile file and click IMPORT.

4. Enter your Username

Enter your central username

Please now enter your central username and add the profile via ADD.
This matches your username e.g. for eduroam, the account management or Groupware.

5. Connect

Activate the switch to connect
Enter your central password

Activate the switch to connect your device with the VPN.

 

Now enter your password for the username you entered and confirm with OK.

6. Certificate Dialogue

Ignore the certificate dialogue
Successful connection

VPN access is only granted using username and password. No client certificates are used. Therefore, please skip this step and continue with ‘continue’.
