KeePassXC: Set up Database

After opening KeePassXC, you must first set up a database. This is where the TOTP secrets are stored securely.

Step by step

  1. Start KeePassXC.
  2. Click on "Create database" or via the menu on "Database" and "New database ...".
  3. Enter a name for the database.
  4. Confirm the encryption settings unchanged and click on"Next".
  5. Assign a security password for the database. (A key file can also be specified.)
  6. Click on "Done" and then select a storage location in the "Save database as" dialogue.
  7. Done. The database for KeePassXC has now been created.

Notice

If you are working exclusively on the university's network, it is recommended that you save the database in your home directory on the central file server (usually drive H:). In this case, no further backup is necessary.

In all other cases, the database file should be backed up, just like all other data.
