Change username
The username is the unique key for assigning accounts in all of the university's IT systems. Therefore, it is generally not possible to change it.
However, since usernames are based on first and last names, there are special exceptional situations that may require a change of username, e.g.
- Contested divorce
- Change of name due to the Self-Determination Act
- Change of name due to the dgti supplementary ID card
Since it is not technically possible to change the username, the University Computer Centre offers the following method for changing the username:
- Affected persons create a URZ ticket (type URZ/Diverses) to obtain a new username. By saving the ticket, you confirm that you have read this documentation page and the information on data protection and that you expressly consent to the processing of your personal data.
- The URZ will ensure that the current account with the current username expires and is deleted according to the normal rules for account expiration.
- The following day, a new account with the new username will be created automatically.
- The URZ will transfer the password from the old account to the new account and communicate the new username in the ticket.
Affected persons are responsible for transferring all data from the old account to the new account (email, file server, nextcloud, resources, etc.) and, if necessary, for having permissions such as shares on the file server or nextcloud, etc. transferred. This transfer must take place within the grace period.
