Creating a security key for the Matrix session

A security key must be created for the Matrix session so that the Matrix client can be used for secure and encrypted communication. The subsequent storage of the security key allows you permanent access to the encrypted content.

1. click on your profile icon (top left) in the Matrix client
2. select the “Security” item in the menu
3. the window for the security and privacy settings appears
4. click on the “Set up” button under “Encrypted backup”
5. select “Enter security phrase” and click on “Continue”
6. enter a security phrase for the security key and follow the instructions displayed and click on “Continue”
7. confirm the security phrase and click on “Continue”
8. to save the security key permanently, click on “Download” and select a suitable storage location on your system
9. confirm your identity with a Shibboleth login (in the web browser), click on “Single Sign-on” and then on “Confirm”
10. Done: Your Matrix session is now secured and you can communicate in encrypted form
