Sign & encrypt emails

This article describes all the steps you need to take to sign emails cryptographically and, if required, encrypt them as well.

It is assumed that you already have an user or group certificate and that this is available as a password-protected p12 file.

Important!

Please note the following points when using signed and encrypted emails:

  • An electronic signature is only valid if the certificate used has not yet expired.
  • The private key is required to access encrypted emails; if this key is replaced, the content of old (encrypted) emails can no longer be accessed.
