Apply TOTP

This section explains how TOTP is used in practice as part of two-factor authentication.

To log in to a TOTP-secured application, it will ask you for a 6-digit TOTP code. 

The requirement for using TOTP codes is:

  • you must first have successfully set up two-factor authentication for your account using an authenticator app such as KeePassXC or FreeOTP
  • you must first check the system time on the device running the authenticator app and synchronise it if necessary; see the website (Where am I?).

The process of generating and retrieving TOTP codes is explained in detail below for KeePassXC and FreeOTP. All generated TOTP codes are valid for a maximum of 30 seconds.
