Using the Proxy Server

This article explains how the proxy server can be used during a VPN connection, e.g. for accessing online publications outside of the university network. The URZ would like to specifically point out that this procedure is not necessary for most circumstances. Usually, the new VPN system makes the use of a proxy server unnecessary. If you access web contents outside of the university network with an active VPN connection, your client will direct you to your target without the data traffic running via the University.

Nearly all of the online publications can be accessed directly via Shibboleth, without the use of a VPN connection. However, some publishing houses do not permit Shibboleth access. For these very few exceptions, you will first need to connect to VPN and then access the publishing house’s website via our proxy server. This legitimates you for downloading publications provided by these publishing houses.
