Setup email on android devices

To set up the email service successfully on an Android device, the following requirements have to be fulfilled:

• The device must have internet access (see, Wi-Fi / eduroam).
• You must have a valid and active user account / functional account (see: Central User Account).

The URZ recommends the Thunderbird app for setting up an email account on an Android device.

1. Once Thunderbird has been installed on your device, open it.
2. Tap Let's get started to begin the manual setup.
3. Select Add an email account.
4. Enter your email address.
5. As the automatic configuration cannot be found, click on Configuration not found/Configure manually.
6. Set the following values for the incoming mail server:
   1. Server: imap.uni-greifswald.de
   2. Security: StartTLS
   3. Username: URZ username
   4. Password: app password
7. The next step is to configure the outgoing mail server:
   1. Server: smtp.uni-greifswald.de
   2. Security: StartTLS
   3. Username: URZ username
   4. Password: app password
8. Leave the folder settings unchanged.
9. In the display options, give the new account a name and enter your own name. This will appear as the sender when you send emails.
10. Leave the synchronization settings unchanged.
11. Done.
