Wi-Fi Expansion
The URZ started to provide the entire university with campus-wide Wi-Fi in 2015. An application for large-scale equipment was submitted and granted by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2016. However, the DFG refused all funds requested for upgrading the wiring.
As a result, we were able to purchase access points, but the main challenge lies in installing the required wiring for the access points in the right places inside the university’s buildings. The resulting costs have to be covered by the university.
This has meant that the entire project has had to be spread out to correspond with the availability of building funds and also currently, due to the massive shortage of electricians.
The extension of the Wi-Fi network is now being realised according to a list of priorities set by the Rectorate back in 2016. This list, including comments, is shown below and is being processed from top to bottom.
